At the moment the Woodcrafters club are helping to restore a drilling rig for the Caboolture Historical Society.

Pat Robertson has been making replicas of the wooden wheels for the drilling rig and has been kind enough to supply us with information relating to the job.

The large wheel was originally made from silky oak. The replica will be made from Blackbutt. comprised of 42 boards, each 200 x 30mm, then each board is shaped with a curve to fit together into a circle. Then nailed and bolted together.

Small inner wheel was originally from pine and so will the replica be made from pine. Comprised of 24 boards, shaped to an outer and inner circular shape, nailed and bolted together with a fibro brake system attached with 100 screws.

This project is another fantastic example of two clubs working together to save another piece history for the community.
