Expo 88 Australia Signs – Story and Photos of the Restoration

The Expo 88 AUSTRALIA signs are now restored and can be viewed at the Village.

The official unveiling of the stacked Expo 88 AUSTRALIA sign took place on 26 October with the large horizontal AUSTRALIA sign unveiled by Ken Done and Sally-anne Atkinson on 28 October 2018.

13 March 2018 – The Beginning

On Tuesday, 13 March 2018 the Village received news that the Australia signs, which were featured at Expo 88 and have been at Arethusa College Deception Bay for many years, are coming to the Caboolture Historical Village.

Remove, transport, refurbish and display was all we had to do.  A fantastic win for our Village.

30 April 2018 – Signs Pulled Down

Things are definitely happened here as you can see, scissor lift, crane and many staff, some of whom are Volunteers. The site was prepped last week by the bobcat from Urban Retaining Walls to make it safer and ensure any pitfalls were exposed. The great people from Skyreach provided the scissor lift and our friends, Burpengary Cranes did the heavy lifting of the signs and carry them to the loading area.  R&R Hire who have a connection with Arethusa College and the Village have helped with equipment needed today.

Long term supporters of the Caboolture Historical Village, Alzino Earthmoving will be providing the low loader and pilot vehicle for the transport in the near future. We thank all of these local companies for their support of this project.

Even with the very generous help provided by these people funds will be needed to keep this project rolling.

Restoration Begins on Signs

Areas at the Village were earmarked for the restoration work and visitors to the Village are able to see this work taking place.

We are very fortunate to have a group of about 10 trainees working under the Queensland Government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work to help clean, sand and paint the signs.  Village volunteers will repair and reshape the signs.
